Is the trend towards virtualisation just another IT fad or is it a sustainable and beneficial technology platform which is here to stay?

Published on 18/04/2011

The Market Intel Group are predicting that far from being a flash in the IT pan, 2011 will see the virtualisation market continue to grow.  So far from reaching the end of the road, companies who have not yet started using virtualisation will increasingly turn to it.

Analysts predict the cumulative global market for virtualisation topping $290 billion for The virtualisation sector and $300 billion for the cloud computing sector for the period 2011 to 2016.  These figures are good news and if the economy is still in poor shape (which is likely to be the case), this will push the adoption of virtualization technologies even further because they can help save money on hardware, software and power consumption - and anything which helps improve businesses green credentials is always good news.
